The Not So Perfect Home Remodeling Product
Buying the dreamhome of your choice usually comes with some heavy financial burdens or painful decisions. The one you end up choosing does not always come one hundred percent the way you wished you could have it. To quote the real estate agent, “it has such potential”, what they meant was – it’s going to cost you both arms and possibly a leg to get it to that so-called “potential”.
If you are a savvy project manager or home improvement enthusiast, then it really doesn’t have to be. You could easily plan on getting the materials yourself and hiring a contractor to do the work for you, so that there is no mark up on the materials they use. They usually add at least twenty five percent margin to all construction materials in their quotes for any home remodeling product that they need to purchase for the contract, be it tiles, bricks, paint, you name it.
Assuming you have gone through the effort to hire an architect and review their home remodeling plan, make sure you have everything clearly planned out and in writing – and there is a firm understanding between yourself and the contractor or architect involved. It may look stunning on their screen or in the renderings or model, but the proof will ultimately be in the pudding, turning that concept from paper to reality. Ultimately you are the one that has to not only pay for it, but you’re going to be the one to actually live with it.
Has the architect or interior designer showing you all of these wonderful ideas and pictures really considered how you live and how you like to do things within your home? Have they thought about how many people use that particular space and whether it fits into your lifestyle? You could end up so enthralled by the design images that you actually forgot to mention these points too. The contractor has the plans in hand, so now is the time to see if it really works in practice, not just in theory and conceptual design.
The biggest problem with home remodeling products or software
After all this time and money has been spent, your kitchen which you had chosen to do on the designers home remodeling software ends up not turning out the way you envisioned. You now want to blow a gasket due to frustration but the problem is now yours. And the biggest problem with some of these home remodeling package software is that it does not allow you to actually live in the space beforehand, before everything has been built and put in.
You look once again at the drawings or pictures from the designer / architect, on paper it is what you wanted originally, but somehow not anymore. You obviosuly cannot return the goods, you can’t walk away from the payment either so now you have to live with it and hopefully do something constructively about it.
