Lots of us love our gardens and enjoy the necessary upkeep to make the garden a space of natural beauty and tranquility. However you may be thinking of giving your garden a makeover and not be so sure where to start. There are many things you can do to change the look of your garden, some are small simple changes and others may require a bit more in terms of financial input but whatever your budget it’s easy to give your garden a fresh new look.

A garden awning is a great way to give your garden a whole new look. Awnings are functional in that they will protect the exterior of your home from the elements be that bright sunshine or rain and wind. Garden awning are also a great feature because they look good and if you enjoy entertaining in your garden they add that extra bit of protection and warmth for your comfort. There are many different kinds of awning available from the freestanding canopy types to the remote controlled with built in heating and lighting.

Or you could buy a new ornament to give your garden a theme or help it to look more elegant and stylish. Oriental themes are popular as are animals. Choose something beautiful or something that means something special to you and you will be able to gaze at it when sitting out in your garden and enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures.

Another popular choice when giving the garden a makeover is to install some kind of water feature. Some people choose landscaped ponds with others preferring a bubbling fountain. Many people enjoy the soothing sound of running water and an added bonus is that a water feature can attract birds and other wildlife to your garden.

Repaint your fence or shed if you have one and you will give your garden a whole new lease of life. Many people are getting creative with color and pastel colored sheds and fences really brighten up a small space. Greens and blues look good and could give your garden a more Mediterranean feel.

A larger project you could take on to change the look of your garden is to add decking. Decked areas are good for parts of the garden where you have your garden furniture and are pleasant for sitting out on. If you enjoy entertaining in your garden then a decked area will look stylish and also be practical and what’s more less lawn means less mowing!

Growing your own fruit and vegetables has never been as popular so you could add a vegetable patch to change the look of your garden. Or why not try a few fruit trees? Vegetables grow quickly so you will see the fruits of your labor relatively quickly. Herb gardens are also a good idea and will give you some fresh produce for the kitchen.

    Bedroom Decorating Tips & Ideas

    Posted by homerenovation | General | Saturday 16 April 2011 1:57 am

If you want to enhance the look and feel of your bedroom, but find yourself forever postponing the project because you are short on time and money, then you are not alone. However, this does not need to be the case, as there are several affordable ways to spruce up the look of your bedroom. The first thing to do is to buy at least one new linen / duvet / pillow set. As your bed is the biggest item in your room, it makes sense to have it looking fresh and new, right? You can buy a complete set of items for less then $50. Co-ordination with other aspects of your room is key, so try to match up what you buy with the colors and patterns of your walls, carpet and curtains. A nice, well-placed rug can make a big difference to your bedroom too. Even a small rug will do. It is a chance to add a spark of personality to the room. The key is to buy a good quality one, and not just a cheap, thin one. The best ones are those which have a good texture, such as a shag rug. If you have quite a plain looking bedroom at the moment, then a brightly colored rug, or one with a cool design, is what you need. Consider also replacing your door and wardrobe knobs and handles. There are many brands that offer inexpensive options that look terrific whilst still being very affordable. As most bedroom furniture has only a handful of handles and knobs, you should consider paying a bit extra for really nice looking ones, as the overall cost of replacing all of them will still not be very high. If you can get hold of around $300, you should consider investing in a new headboard. This can serve as a great centerpiece for the room. This change alone can turn a plain looking bedroom into an eye-catching, stylish one. By paying a few hundred dollars you can get a headboard that will add class and sophistication to the room. As a final point, no bedroom renovation would be complete without giving the walls a new layer of paint. As they see the same walls everyday, most people do not realize that paint fades a lot over time. So, whilst you might think that your walls look ok, you will instantly see that you were wrong when you see them after they have been repainted.

      Giving Your Kitchen A Makeover

      Posted by homerenovation | General | Monday 14 February 2011 5:09 am

There is something comforting about spending time in the kitchen. It gets us back to one of the necessities of humanity, namely preparing and eating food. It allows us to forget the scary realities of jobs and bills and lets us enjoy trying out new recipes or attempt something totally unknown to the culinary world. Kitchens often are the mood setters in a home, and there are some contemporary kitchen designs that go a long way toward making you feel a certain way.

Plenty of contemporary kitchens maintain a particular theme that ties the room together. Because it is the kitchen, a specific food may decorate items found in the room: pot holders, towels, dishes, small appliances, mixing bowls, and jars are just a handful of all of the pieces found in the kitchen that can be adorned with similar imagery. For example, you may want pictures of apples or bread to appear on your cookery. Lately, kitchens are also being matched to the rest of the home. The theme in the living room and dining room is being extended to the kitchen. It has a pleasing, balancing effect.

Modern and minimalist are two monikers given to contemporary kitchen designs. These terms sometimes evoke images of sterility and a lack of emotion, but that is not necessarily true. Most appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers are manufactured in black, white, and silver. Some wish to design the rest of the kitchen to complement them. Often there is little or no molding found in modern and minimalist styles. Additionally, manufactured materials like laminates and glass often take the place of natural substances such as wood. This makes for a futuristic look.

As somewhat of a counterpoint to modern and minimalist designs, some contemporary kitchens are full of bold colors. Deep reds, yellows, greens, and blues make the kitchen seem warm and cozy. This is a good idea for those who wish to treat the kitchen as its own entity, rather than an extension of the rest of the house. Of course, you would be hard pressed to find a stove or refrigerator in these colors, so some people will even install sinks made of pastels and hot shades to add even more colors to the palette.

It would seem that contemporary kitchen designs sharply contrast one another, from warm, cheerful colors to sparse, metallic shades and edgy architecture. It is just an indication of how many choices are available to someone building a modern-day kitchen.
